Overview

This Asian-style teahouse in the heart of Dupont Circle hosts outdoor Japanese tea ceremonies in summer. The rest of the year, enjoy dozens of exotic teas, breakfast, sandwiches and bento boxes. Teaism- A Tea House also has a small store where you can buy traditional tea settings. Try the ostrich burgers, Japanese bento boxes (rice, sushi, and a hot dish) and rice pudding for dessert. Tea is served in your own pot.

Great atmosphere for chatting with friends while enjoying some non-fattening tea. They do have sweet chai shake (tea shake) though. It was quite hot inside during summer so I would not suggest ordering a hot drink/tea. Heard that the other branch at Chinatown has better airconditioning.

The tea was first rate, the food fresh, wonderful little gifts available. The rooms were kind of old fashioned and wonderful for lingering. I came during a busy period but they seemed a little disorganized and I felt I had to wait an inordinately long time. It was worth the wait!
