Overview

With its funky shops and trendy restaurants and bars, Dupont Circle is one of the hippest neighborhoods in Washington. Its cosmopolitan air draws visitors both young and old, straight and otherwise. Once a neighborhood of old money and the nouveau riche, Dupont Circle today is home to artists, intellectuals and young professionals. The neighborhood's turn-of-the-century mansions and brownstones, formerly home to prominent families, today house art museums, restaurants, embassies and fun shops. Dupont Circle is also home to the Phillips Collection, one of the city's foremost art museums with paintings by Renoir, Degas and Cézanne.

Dupont Circle was just amazing. All the architecture to look at and the roses growing along the street. They were the best smelling I've ever experienced. I would definently go back to shop more and experience some more of the resaurants. Everybody we met on the street were so friendly.

DC's Most Famous Circleby Yahoo | 2007-01-01 15:40:43 |

While Dupont Circle is probably DC's most famous and it certainly does have many shopping and dining opportunity's surrounding it, it has become less tourist freidnly in recent years. Known for it's dining and gay bars the Dupont circle area used to be a fun place to visit at night, but a recent rise in crime and the park being overun with homeless has tainted the once pristine area. While it is still worth visiting, visitors should temper there visits with a sense of caution and lower expectations than before. Just up the road from Dupont however on Connecticut Avenue is resplendent with multiple wonderful eateries.

Dupont Circle is a very attractive and trendy area of DC. There's shops all around the circle and a great selection of places to find lunch or dinner. Bookstores, clothing shops, and coffeeshops are just some of the places to walk into while you're here. Best of all, grab your lunch and head over to Dupont Circle where there's lots of lush green areas to settle in and enjoy the sun and fellow Washingtonians around you. The tall, white fountain in the middle and beautiful red tulips ringing the circle in the spring are all great attractions that add to the casual enjoyability of the spot. The circle can get a bit crowded on the weekends, but if you have time to visit, it's worth the effort.
