Overview

For almost 100 years, Gray Line has been escorting visitors around Washington DC, making monuments and buildings come alive with historical narration and guided tours. Choose from several packages that include tours of the memorials, US Capitol, Arlington Cemetery and Mount Vernon. The 'Washington After Dark' tour stops by the illuminated memorials, shows a spectacular view from the Kennedy Center and introduces you to the bustling nightlife of Georgetown. Day trips out of town are offered to Colonial Williamsburg, Gettysburg and Monticello. Tours begin at several hotels and Union Station.

OMG WTFby Yahoo | 2008-07-15 22:00:25 |

I don't even know where to start. For a city with so much history and so many landmarks it blows my mind that they would put together such a poorly executed tour. Betweeen the doginging the overgrown trees, trying to figure out which landmark the tape was describing, and taking pictures while the driver traveled at breakneck speed, I am left speechless. I have been on several Gray Line Tours in other cities that are not as historic as this one and thoroughly enjoyed the tours. I thought that this one would be of the same caliber. Boy, was I mistaken. When you sit downstairs it's like riding the Metro, because the narration is so boring and inaudible, the passengers start to hold conversation amongst themselves. Upstairs when you sit on the left side of the bus you take your life into your own hands. The trees along the route are overgrown and you have to duck down while sitting. The narration did not match the landmarks. And the driver went by them so fast that even in those moments when it matched, you could not observe what the tape was speaking to. I think that the tour would have benefitted from having a guide give the tour live. I have been on double decker tours in other major cities and they all had tour guides. They were able to give in-depth details, offer dining and travel suggestions, answer questions and repeat information as needed. The service received on those tours far surpassed my experience on my tour today as a result of having a live tour guide.

Extremely Disappointedby Yahoo | 2006-09-06 05:54:33 |

We purchased the Washington DC After Dark tour and were quite disappointed. Most of the attractions didn't have the lights on. The driver told us that because of 9/11, lights were out so the terrorists couldn't find their targets. Are we that ignorant to think the terrorists can't locate the well-lighted Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument? Why would they keep the smaller memorials and buildings dark when those are lighted? We felt that the after dark tour should be cancelled if we can't see. The walkways at some of the sights were very dark and dangerous. The tour was shorter than advertised. Several people commented during the tour that we felt deceived. Washington DC is a terrific place to visit - just see it during the day.

They overbook their toursby Yahoo | 2006-08-09 02:57:01 |

It was my last evening in DC and my friend and I had purchased tickets for the "Washington After Dark" tour far ahead of time that day. We arrived ahead of the 7:45p.m departure time and stood midway in the line ready to board. The line suddenly broke down into smaller lines and we ended up in the back. Soon 4 buses were loaded while a 5th remained empty. They had overbooked the tour (and didn't have a 5th driver?), while 25 of us still remained and could have filled a whole other bus. About half of the 25 left switched their tickets to the next night, but for those of us who would not be in town were out of luck..and all of the other night tours that they knew of w/other companies had left at 7:30. They refunded our tickets, but I never saw DC (I was attending a conference during the day). It was handled very unprofessionally, how do you overbook it by 25 or so people? They said that some folks buy tickets for the day tour and then wait for the evening one, they should have some way to track that so that it isn't a disadvantage to folks like me who purchase a tickets for the correct tour.
