Located at the west end of the National Mall, the Lincoln Memorial is a principal landmark of the city. It offers magnificent views of the city from several vantage points. Daniel Chester French's 19-foot (5.7-meter) statue of Lincoln seated and deep in thought, along with the carved text of the Gettysburg Address, provides a glimpse into a weighty period of American history. The 36 Doric columns represent the number of states in the union at the time of Lincoln's death. Go at night for much lighter crowds.Open Hours
Mo to Su from 12:00 AM to 12:00 AMI loved the Lincoln Memorial. I had never thought I would get there. And there I was. I hadn't even started going up the stairs yet and I had to pause to take it in. It was probably the one place in DC that I actually got emotional. You could never imagine how big the statue of Abe really is until you see it for yourself. It was by far my favorite sight to see.
It really put into perspective the length men went for our country. The detail and size of the monument are amazing.
1st. time in dc and went to a lot of the monuments they were unbelieveable.we went to the washingtonn lincoln, vietnam.korean ww2 memorials also went to the us capitol building, the white house,it was great as well but the one thing i will never forget is watching the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier it was very moving.
I like everything about it and I dislike it because when you go to the white house all of these homeless peolpe try to sell you things off the rip!!
Zackary, Isabel and Eileen went in the month of April and we had a great visit. We visit all the sights and the the locals were very kind to us. We truely had a great time.
The lincoln memorial would have to be one of my favorite places in DC. The building is beautiful with its amazing architecture. It has so much to do inside to learn about one of our greatest presidents, lincoln. Just to top it off, if you look out the front you will have a view down the whole national mall with the reflecting pool right there!
Lincoln Memorial was more breath taking then I had ever expected. It's just beyond words to try and describe the atmosphere here. For the most part the adults that were there were very respectful and in aww of this memorial but they allowed the kids to run about and disrupt others. I found that very disrespectful to us and the nation. I would recommend this to everyone it is well worth the time does not cost a cent unless you find the gift shop. But leave the small kids at the hotel or with grandma.
Its a wonderful and pleasent place. Architecture is great, everything else is fine. But if I was sitting in place of Lincoln there, Who is now, not allowed to look anywhere else but right in front. There are so many pillars in front of his statue. Right in front of him is washington monument which totally obstructs his view of Jefferson memorial!!!!!!!! Is that done intentionally? Did Lincoln hate him? Why has he made blind when he is now in the cast?? ..... These are just my personal feelings about the way Lincoln memorial is constructed. I dont know if you like it or not. But for sure, I wouldnt like it if I was sitting there instead of him!! Please write your reviews if you feel like, just so that I can come to know if my feelings for Lincoln are right! Thanks.
This was an amazing sight to see. Our group, (15- 7th & 8th graders on a school trip during spring break 20 years ago), went in the evening. Viewing the combination of the Lincoln Memorial, the reflecting pool and the Washington Memorial in the distance all lit up in the evening was breathtaking. It seemed like time stood still and everything was silent, which only intensified what we were seeing, feeling, understanding and respecting.
This place is good, but not what i was looking for at the moment. It is good so if i ever need it i will keep it in mind!! :)
