Overview
Surrounded by many of Wellington's most expensive and desirable homes Oriental Bay is a sheltered, safe swimming bay right in the heart of the city. Ringed by a promenade, relax on the beach with views across to the inner-city and the northern hills. Take a nearby walk along the harbour or walk up into the town-belt for a spot of greenery. After a hard day swimming or sunbathing revive yourself with a drink in one of the many cafes in the vicinity.Open Hours
Mo to Su from 12:00 AM to 12:00 AMFun little kids beach near the play ground. Popular spot, though. It gets busy during the weekends. Kids love the slides and the tidal pools that have formed on the concrete blocks. Parking can be difficult.
I live in a rented property on Oreintal Parade. The house we live is is one of the oldest in the area, though you wouldnt know it to walk past, the company that owns it ripped off the original brick front with huge bay windows, and replaced it with a cheap stock hardboard facade with aluminium windows. This is because the house is so old with so much history that it was goign to be a heritage site and therefore it would be illegal to knock it down and replace it with a souless apartment block. It will now no longer be a heritage site because of this hidious alteration so the landlord can profit twice as much. Very clever. We are enjoying very much being able to live in our amazing house before it gets murdered. Inside there is all the original woodwork wihich is very beautiful. Living on Oriental Parade is a lovely experience. The light is always beautiful, what ever the weather.the new beach from golden bay sand is the best investment our city council has made.We have a gorgeous view of hte city lights on the harbour water at night.
