Overview

Located just minutes off the coast from Xiamen, this island enjoys legendary status with locals and visitors (Dick Nixon lodged here in 1972). Despite its small size, its narrow cobblestone streets are crammed with colonial-style buildings fronted by large terraced patios lending it an almost Bavarian look. Automobiles are banned from the island creating a calm, park-like atmosphere. Sunlight Rock and Koxinga Memorial Hall are two of its more popular attractions.

Open Hours

    • Monday to Sunday from 12:00 AM to 12:00 AM

      mess but scenicby Yahoo | 2009-11-10 09:58:00 |

gulangyu is a scenic & serene island forever BUT as time goes by unsolicited tour guides are everywhere, hope the management will do something about it, I especially love the piano museum BUT again the management should be strict with the no smoking policy. one should be aware of those seafood restaurants offering live catch, don't be fooled by the tempting offers, the price might be doubled after you ask for the bill.

      2006 Tour - Favorite Placeby Yahoo | 2008-03-30 21:53:10 |

I traveled to Gulangyu with my wife in February of 2006. What a beautiful Island. We were treated very well. Plenty of opportunities to practice speaking Xiamenese. We traveled by ferry from Xiamen. No vehicles are allowed on the island. The island is peaceful and has much history. There are some great places to walk, a bird sanctuary, and a overhead tram. I'd love to go back to Gulangyu, it is a wonderful place to visit. The people of China are incredible hosts.
