Overview

Situated in the lively Niederdorf area, the ZicZac is only a short walk away from the Hauptbahnhof, the Bellevue and Lake Zurich. The hotel itself is unique, being the only rock-themed hotel in Zurich. All of the rooms are named after a band or an artist. You can, for example, stay in the Pink Floyd room, or the Foreigner room. Don't limit yourself - there are lots of stars to choose from! All of the 51 rooms have a television and a telephone. The hotel restaurant serves up American specialties (burgers, pancakes, etc.). In the evenings, the hotel's ZicZac bar is the place to be. There are in-house DJs, and many locals tend to come here on the weekend.

Zic Zac Mock Hotelby Yahoo | 2005-11-26 23:31:28 |

A bar at 0 level for party-animals masqued lost souls, all of these rock stars posters and make believe awards inside the rooms make you giggle and feel what a rebelious type you might be of to be lodging in such a hip place. And especially so, when you get a lovely little couple in room 611 -that is, kind of close to room 610, where I myself was- f...... from sunrise till dawn. My room was not done for two days. I just had Hunye Cecen from the reception desk telling me it hadn't been touched because housekeeping had found it to be too messy. Just innocent pieces of clothes on bed (easy, you take them and put them inside the closet) and that is all! On 20th, it happenned again. The next morning, I had Mr Smerak, the manager, and told him about it: you think he explained anything ? He remained mute as in Chaplin movies. 25/11: leaving day. At 9:45 AM my taxi had arrived, but I just knew it, because I myself bothered to phone Mr Smerak at the reception desk. Else, you know, the taxi would still be there waiting, today. He said he was alone and so, was unable to get my two suitcases down (more than 9 kilos in total). It was Maryssa, from housekeeping, who helped me taking them to the lobby, in the end: yes, a girl, and believe me, very skinny! Also, if I'm on a day-by-day payment base and they say OK on 16th, my arrival day, I just take it as it is OK, and so, again, Mr Smerak scared the hell out of me when, on 22nd, after I told him I planned to stay until 25th, he said he couldn't ensure there could be room for me until that date: how come! That implied that he or the hotel, in general, might have made arrangements to put someone else in my room, without first asking me? In all appearances, it did. I do not understand, because if they have reasons to put someone else in my room instead of me, after I was the first who arrived, I can just find out if they FIRST TALK TO ME ON MY ARRIVAL DAY (going, like: "No, unfortunately, by not knowing for how long you are staying we can miss hosts and so, money, and, therefore, Ms Liberona, we will politely ask you to define yourself and tell us from what exact date to what exact day you are staying FROM THIS VERY BEGINNING."). But not by finding out, in the middle of my stay, that I might be kicked off. After searching in the system, that day, Mr Smerak, however, found I could remain in the hotel. But then, on 23rd, I there he was, again, to charge me for the following night, and again, he asked: For-how-long-do-you-plan-to-stay? Why isn't the last payment included in the receipt, as well? Whenever you ask for it, they should give it to you including the last-day-most-recent-payment,too, and not yesterday's-like-most-recent payment. Unfortunately, they had all gone overbooked elsewhere. No way I could move. To sum up: being in place, communication and politeness are the key words here. Any ideas the hotel had on you, they should spit them -with manners, of course- from the arrival day in a sort of it's-now-or-it's-never-thing. Gradual drops are stressful -a little 33 year-old chilean in Switzerland! Poooooooooooooor foreign-in-a totally-new-country baby! That was me! So, no, it was not friendly. You guys should try Hottingen Foyer. For same rank -or so I think, they must be both 2 stars- it's infinitely superior, minus 3 francs (CHF75 versus CHF78 at Zic Zac) and for specific amounts of time, you can even get discounts. Breakfast is included in the price -versus Zic Zac- and it includes bread, butter, jam, cereals, milk, yoghurt, orange juice, coffee, tea...and I can't remember if there were croissants, too; unlike Zic Zac, where they charge you $5 or so for a less abundant breakfast. High quality cleaning, as well, of both rooms and bathroom, is present. To Mr Smerak: my advice is that you try to improve the service. Daniela Liberona

in the middle of everythingby Yahoo | 2005-03-19 18:10:11 |

the zic zac is located in the heart of what's happening in zurich, in the middle of old town with churchs and ringing bells, in the middle of restaurants along the river, and a ten minute walk for the central train station. rooms i had were sunlite, #411 and 609, clean, had phone, tv, chairs, closet, and table in 609, close to shower and bath. all was clean, never a wait for bath or shower, quiet, spacious. my friend paid fifteen times what i did and his room was hardly any larger, private bath though! james
